If you haven’t already registered for the 2020 Windsor International Writers Conference yet, there is still time to do so, and if you register before January the first 2020, you get our early bird specials! Click here for registration details to reserve your spot today!
These are only some of the highlights you can expect the weekend of the conference. We get things started bright and early Friday, July 10 th , with registration at 7:45 am, at the Holiday Inn on Huron Church Rd in Windsor.
Over a continental breakfast, we’ll have a quick introduction, then our first panel with Sam Hiyate, the agent behind The Rights Factory, Cyle Young from Hartline Literary and Cyle Young Literary Elite, and David Braughler, Braughler Books LLC.
At 10:15am, we start our first round-table intensive. Now, if you’ve never participated in something like this before, don’t panic and don’t be nervous. Every round-table discussion is led by an agent, editor, or publisher, so it’s not a free for all. Each writer presents the first 500 words of their manuscript and receives critiques from their peers and from the agent/editor/or publisher present. This is your chance to present your writing and get some feedback from an industry professional and to ask any questions you might have about the writing, editing, or publishing process. It also gives the agent a chance to meet you and see you in action – how you react to criticism, your eagerness to learn, your friendliness to other writers etc.
Lunch is then provided and during that time, our first Keynote speakers, The Book Doctors, will give some insight on how to get your book ready, how to pitch, and what to do to get published.
After lunch is another round-table intensive, where you can change up which group you are in and get feedback and answers from another source.
At 6 pm are our official opening ceremonies which includes the First Nations tradition of Welcoming the Drum.
After dinner on Friday, our keynote speaker will be Monica Piper. Monica is an Emmy Award-winning comedy writer and stand-up comic. She has written for sit-coms Roseanne and Mad About You, and was the head writer of the #1 children’s animated series Rugrats. She also starred in her own Showtime Network special, “No, Monica, Just You” and was nominated by the American Comedy Awards as one of the top five female comedians in the country.
There will be a Q&A with Monica, and after that the floor will open up to everyone for a casual meet and greet where you can schmooze and mingle with fellow attendees, authors, agents, editors, and publishers. We’ll also have books for sale and authors on hand to sign them!
Saturday, July 11 th brings us so many fabulous speakers, plus PITCHAPALOOZA and thriller writer, Steven James. Steven has offered to do one of his famous writing intensives where he takes you through the essentials of writing a novel of any genre on Sunday, before he heads back to LA.Sunday will also bring you the latest info on how to prepare a book for publishing, self and Indie and hybrid publishing, and a whole lot more. We’ll also announce the winners of our writing contests! More on that to come. The conference officially ends at 1pm. And that, my friends, is the tip of the iceberg!
